    Climbing and Climbing Certification
    SRC 5-6pm

Come climb at the SRC. Bring rock shoes if you have them, otherwise
wear sneakers. Harnesses are available for free check out.

If you are not yet certified to climb on the UAF wall, I can certify you
during this time. This may be the last time that I will be certifying
race team members this season, so make sure you come if you want to
    climb this year.

You'll need to bring $10/person for the certification fee. Checks can be made out to AAC (or
Alaska Alpine Club). Cash is ok too.

Feel free to email me with any questions.

Hope to see you all there,

    ANNOUNCEMENTS:
    • We’re going to ski this weekend! We finally get to train, but we’re a bit thin in the coaching department. Parents who want to ski with the BTP groups will be appreciated.
    • No training for the ATP on Friday.
    • Good luck to John King, Aurora Roth, Maggie Smith, Emily Koenig, Robin Lockwood and Jonathan Koenig as they compete in the Alyeska Cup this weekend!
    • The Alaska J4/J5 Alpine Championship races, for athletes 9-12 years old, have been moved to Alyeska. The dates are still the same, March 7-9. The series consists of a Super G, a giant slalom and a slalom. If this is your first year ski racing, this isn’t an appropriate race to participate in, particularly with the limited training we’ve had. Let me know if you’re planning on going and what your travel and housing needs are. I need to start making arrangements for housing and coaches.

    • We’d like to arrange a trip to the final Youth Ski League race of the season, March 1, at Alpenglow. Let Janice Cook (457-4442, Janice.Cook62@bannerhealth.com) or Bill Hauer know if you’re interested or have questions. These are fun races for ages 5-18, novice or experienced racers.

    How to help Reini

    reini
    1) The biggest help we can give him right now is to deluge our congressional
delegation with email messages expressing concern (outrage) for what
happened to Reini, support for him, and a request for their assistance in
clearing up the matter. The number of messages received by them is more
important than the content; numbers count a lot on an issue like this,
particularly that this is an election year. And email messages are more
effective these days than letters. It might help to have Reinhard Neuhauser
in the subject line, so they see right away what the message is referring
    to.

    Dear Senator Murkowski,

    Care of Diane Hutchison diane_hutchison@stevens.senate.gov
    Dear Senator Stevens,

    2) Reini had to pay out-of-pocket for his return ticket from Seattle to
Austria. So he's out two tickets at this point and will have to buy another
ticket when this mess is cleared up and he returns to Fairbanks. A support
fund has been established at Denali State Bank to except donations to help
offset these horrible and completely unnecessary expenses. Please send your

There will be a ski team membership meeting this Sunday, Nov. 18, 7:00 PM, at the Pioneer Hall at Pioneer Park (Alaskaland). Pioneer Hall is the first building past the railroad tracks as you enter the back gate at the corner of Moore St. and 2nd Ave. (see map).

Please plan on attending this meeting. This will be our only chance this season to meet as a group of parents and athletes. Program Director Reini Neuhauser has many important things to discuss which involve changes in where and how he envisions the program heading in the next few years. It’s exciting and will result in a much more comprehensive program, with greater benefit to a greater number of youth. Your involvement is critical to realizing these goals.

Contact me or Reini with any questions. See you Sunday!

    Bill
